Halloween Movie Marathon
There’s a Special Film Club Event coming up!! On Halloween, we will be hosting a noon to midnight movie marathon at The Beach (1703 E. 55th St.) - wear a costume!
We have a fairly eclectic selection lined up, some more scary than others. Starting out with some more kid-friendly offerings like the original 1931 Frankenstein and the miniseries Over the Garden Wall, we will then move into a selection of three international films from France, Iran, and Chile: Atlantics by Mati Diop, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night by Ana Lily Amirpour, and The Wolf House by Cristobal León and Joaquín Cociña. We will close up the night with Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook and Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma!
There will be a short break between each film. Each film will also be subtitled. Friends, drinks, and snacks to share are encouraged, see you there!
Male Fantasies Reading Group
Join us for a "Male Fantasies" reading group at The Beach, meeting every Sunday at 4 p.m.! Our study group will meet each week until both volumes are finished, or fascism has been decisively defeated. Hard copies of the book are strongly encouraged.
Open Hours at The Beach
Join us at The Beach from 5 - 7 p.m. every Wednesday for open hours! Come to share and read zines, hang out, drink tea, and chat about events you'd like to see in the space!

Depose Reading Group
Depose: Luigi Mangione, the Right to Health, and the Unfinished American Revolution makes a new kind of case for why the healthcare system in America is itself a crime. Connecting the dots between the rise of for-profit health insurance and the nearly 15 million “excess deaths” in America that accompanied it, the authors track the opponents of universal healthcare back to their sources. There, they discover a little-known coverup that has shaped the law itself: the forced disappearance of our natural right to health. Reclaiming that right changes how we understand our history — and reveals what remains unfinished in the American Revolution.
This reading group is open to all, especially those just getting back into reading! Purchase a copy of book here (https://pilsencommunitybooks.com/item/RRexI4dNPgq_-BFgHienKw)

The Both-Handed Path to Scientific Enlightment
There is a spectre haunting the sciences -- the spectre of dialectical materialism! Students and scholars alike are alienated from the rich tradition of Marxist approaches to and intervention in their fields in spite of vulgarized vestiges from this era still present and popular in their fields. In this event, we'll survey and synthesize the history of radical approaches to science in an effort to understand how, in spite of significant intellectual victories throughout the 20th century, it has been marginalized out of scientific practice. Through this analysis, we'll discuss the task of radical science today and the necessity of movement-building toward this end. While this will be a little lecture-y, it will also be very discussion-based and very informal. This event will commemorate the one year anniversary of the Chicago chapter of SftP.
